Julia Nicolas was being sent north. He wasn't going to let her follow because he knew she loved Katara. He also wasn't going to be around civilization much longer after he relocated.

The dog: sighs.....she probably thought he was lying to her....my mate said the same things to me and "left" and I found out he had really stayed but lied to me....so he could be with another dog.....she probably wanted to die because of that and loosing the pups.....if he only knew it was easier for her this way he might could take it easier
